What better way is there to warm up on a cool fall day than with a hot bowl of chili? Not many, and just up the road from your new house at the South Lakes new home community, on Saturday, November 5, the Fuquay Varina Downtown Revitalization Association (FVDA) will host the annual downtown Fuquay Chili Cook-Off, giving you the opportunity to “warm up” to over 20 different entries.
Starting at 11:00 a.m. and running until 4:00 p.m. ,right in the heart of downtown on Depot Street next to The Mill, the Fuquay Chili Cook-Off will take place for the 14th consecutive year. It is anticipated that more than 20 local businesses, residents, and other groups will be vying for wards in several categories based upon their tasty entries. The public will do the voting for the “People’s Choice” award at the Fuquay Chili Cook Off, while a panel of judges will decide the first, second, and third place winners from a blind taste test and winners receive cash prizes in addition to the all-important bragging rights.
To get involved in the chili tasting, residents can pay just $10 for a “Tasting Ticket” to the Fuquay Chili Cook Off, which allows them to sample as many or all of the entrants submissions as well as cast a vote for the “People’s Choice.” Depending on availability, there may still be eligibility to enter and try and win some of these prizes, testing your own homemade chili against what is sure to be a tough field of contestants at the Fuquay Chili Cook Off.
