The jingling of sleigh bells and the annual tree lighting ceremony right up the road from your new house in the South Lakes  community can only mean one thing, and that is the time of season has arrived for the downtown area to be transformed into a holiday “wonderland” as part of the Christmas Events in Fuquay Varina.

The town’s Downtown Revitalization Association will once again be kicking off the season for Christmas Events in Fuquay Varina on Thursday, December 3, by hosting free sleigh rides through the the historic Fuquay District, starting their route at Ashworth’s BP Station at 120 South Main Street. The rides will run from 6-8 p.m. and will coincide with what is undoubtably the most traditional of all Christmas Events in Fuquay Varina, as the Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at 6 pm at 233 South Main Street.

Line ups for the sleigh rides will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the lines will extend down Main and Depot Streets. “Friends of Downtown” will receive complimentary “Fast Pass” tickets to ride the sleigh and for information on how you can become a “friend” visit here. Staying in the spirit of the holidays and in giving to those in need, the Downtown Revitalization Association will also be teaming up with the good folks at the Fuquay Varina Emergency Food Pantry at the festivities, asking that for your “fare” for a sleigh ride that you donate a canned food item to aid local families in enjoying a nice, hot meal on Christmas.
