The spectacular USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary will welcome some of the most talented young stars in baseball to the area from May 25- June 1, as the facility plays host to the 2013 NCAA Division II Baseball Championships.
The championships will feature the eight regional tournament winners, who will face off in the national quarterfinal and semifinal round contests to earn the right to play for a national championship. Although there is still several weeks left in the regular season, of local interest, the Mount Olive College Trojans from Wilmington are currently ranked number two in the nation, sitting only one point behind Delta State, as they have raced out to an incredible 39 win against only four losses start. The Trojans will hope to utilize the near “home field” advantage in the NCAA’s if they can get to the Cary portion of the tournament, and reclaim the title of champions as they did in the 2008 season. The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Braves will also hope to ride the wave of success they have enjoyed thus far in 2013 and grab a spot in the “Elite Eight” that will face off in Cary. The Braves are currently 31-11 on the year and were ranked number 13 in Division II as of April 15 in the NCBWA polls.
Regardless of the two in-state powerhouses this year, there is sure to be some exciting and drama filled baseball to be played over the final week of May at the USA Baseball National Training Complex that any fan will surely not want to miss. The facility is located at 200 Brooks park Lane in Cary.
