Specific statistics listed for Fuquay Varina and leading to its top ten listing among the Safest Cities in NC shown are its population of 25,249, a minuscule percentage of violent crimes of 1.11 per 1,000 people. The final overall description of how the final rankings were determined was also told as the experts at Safewise noted, “To identify the twenty Safest Cities in NC, we reviewed the most recent FBI crime statistics and population data. Cities that fell below identified population thresholds or that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI were excluded from the ranking system.”
The experts at Safewise further detailed the rankings process, explaining, “Our evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) in each city.” The explanation went on to say, “If there was a tie, we also factored in the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft). To level the playing field, we calculated the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city.” Lastly, it was told that “This makes it easier to directly compare the likelihood of these crimes occurring in cities with vastly different populations.”
