A recent study done by the experts at nerdwallet.com support the all important decision you made in opting to move your family and raise your children in the South Lakes new home community, naming Fuquay Varina as one of the top twenty municipalities on their 2015 list of the Best Cities for Young Families in North Carolina.
In compiling the Best Cities for Young Families in North Carolina, the nerdwallet rankings looked at four different areas. To start they analyzed the schools of each of the 123 cities and towns with a population of at least 15,000 residents. Using information compiled by GreatSchools, comparing each town against the North Carolina state average in standardized test scores to rank each municipality’s schools, which saw Fuquay land in the upper 30th percentile.
Affordability was the second factor that weighed into the listings. Average home value was the main point looked at in deciphering a ranking for this category. Once again, Fuquay’s median home value of $191,500 placed in firmly in the state’s top twenty among those areas looked at.
Each of the cities and towns’ overall economy was also taken into account, as they compared the average household income and the actual economic growth over the past decade in the final ratingscalculations. The overall family economic growth of Fuquay Varina came in at almost 58 percent, ranking it in the again in the top twenty across the state.
Lastly, a category that is new to the annual listing, “family friendliness” was included. In an attempt to the measure whether or not an area is affordable and healthy for a given family, this percentage was calculated through looking at the number of families with school-age children and the poverty rate for young children.
